These little solar lanterns are so easy and cheap to make! They make a festive centerpiece at your 4th of July BBQ, or you could hang them from the trees from their wire handles. No batteries to replace, no cords to plug-in, because they are solar! These solar lights are the perfect July 4th decor DIY project. Try it out!
Head over to your local dollar store or if you don't have one then check out what they have online. I found the glass votive holders in the candle section, NOT with the other 4th of July decor.
Here's what they look like without the solar light glued on. Buy a trio, or buy a whole lot! Who doesn't love solar lights lighting up as the sun goes down? Summer is the season for being outside, and these little lights just make it more enjoyable.
In addition to the glass votive holders, I found the solar lights at the dollar store, too! The clear sealant I used to glue the lights on is called LEXEL. You probably already have something around the house that will do just fine - clear caulking, or E-6000. What I love about LEXEL is that it stays crystal clear and doesn't fog up as it ages. If you'd like more information on Lexel, then head over to my blog, Girls Build Club for the full post.
If you've ever played around with solar stake lights then you know how easy it is to separate the light from the stake! Just twist the top halfway and pull it off!
Position the light on the glass jar and glue it on around the edge. I glued it all the way around because I didn't want water getting into the jar and getting stagnant and gross.
You don't have to worry too much about getting the sealant on perfectly. Because it's clear it doesn't show your mistakes much. Lexel will be hard to get off your hands, so wear disposable gloves!
Set your table and put a few solar lights on it. As the sun goes down they will slowly turn on and add a magical ambiance to the scene.
Set them around pathways, patios, hang them in trees, or use as a centerpiece at your 4th of July celebration.
