Easy, Dollar Store Fall and Halloween Pillow Covers

I love to decorate for fall and Halloween but that doesn't mean I have to spend a lot of money. I made three throw pillow covers using dollar store pillow cases and spent about $5. This does not include the pillow inserts. I already had them and made the covers to fit.

Did you know the Dollar Tree carried pillow cases? I did not until recently. Our store had four different colors. I chose the above colors for fall and for Halloween.

The pillow inserts I have are 12 x 12 so I cut the pillow case to be 13" wide to allow for half inch seams on either side. I drew a cut line first then cut the fabric.

I left the fabric doubled. These cases seem a little thin. The I stitched the sides and ironed the seams

I left the length so I could create an envelope opening on the back. This is my favorite design. There are no zippers and you can remove the insert to wash the cover.

Now I had one long piece that I could fold to create the envelope.

First I wanted to add a pumpkin to each of the fall pillow covers. I used the fabric I had cut off and cut a pumpkin out of each one then placed it on the front. So I used a rust colored pumpkin on the tan pillow cover and a tan pumpkin on the rust colored cover. You get the idea.

The Halloween cover got it's own design. This is available as a free download in my resource library if you would like to make your own pillow or Halloween decor.

I folded the covers temporarily in order to center the pumpkin or the vinyl on the front. Then I opened them back up to use my heat press on the Halloween design and to stitch the pumpkins on the front of the fall covers.

After the pumpkins were stitched in place I gave them a little bit of baker's twine just to add a little more detail to them.

Once the designs were added to the front, I folded it with right sides together and stitched up the sides.

Turn it back to right side out and you end up with a little envelope type opening.

Now I was ready to add my pillow inserts.

I think they turned out pretty cute!

What do you think? Would you make some yourself?
