Oval Platter Turned Easter Egg Tray!

If you love shopping at your local Goodwill or Salvation Army as much as I do, then I have the project for you! This is such a fun upcycle craft for Easter. Find any old oval platter and turn it into a pretty Easter egg tray in just a few simple steps. I spent a year scouting treasures at my Goodwill here in San Antonio and gave each of my thrift store finds a modern makeover - don't miss my Top 10 Favorite thrift store makeover projects!

I found this platter for $3 at the Goodwill. It was a pretty platter but had a small chip in it and didn't match the rest of my kitchen decor so I figured it was the perfect candidate for a makeover!

What a transformation!

Supplies: With a little white acrylic craft paint, colorful tissue paper, and Mod Podge, I was able to transform it into an Easter egg!

Step 1: Start by covering your tray with 2-3 coats of white acrylic craft paint. I like using Martha Stewart Multi-Surface craft paint and a foam brush. Let the paint dry completely between coats.

Step 2: Once the paint is dry, add stripes of colorful tissue paper to create the look of a decorated Easter egg. I freehand cut some with scissors and used a paper punch for the circles. The paper punch works best when cutting through several layers of tissue paper at once. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the back of the tissue paper and smooth onto the platter.

Step 3: Finish by sealing with 1-2 coats of Mod Podge on top. Note that Mod Podge is not food safe and this platter is best used for decorative purposes!
