Transitioning The Front Porch and Outdoor Decor to Fall

I love putting together little vignettes of junk or upcycled vintage items in my gardens. When the temperatures start dropping, I love switching out those vignettes and flower pots to fall flowers and fall decor.
Our front porch is teeny, tiny, so there isn’t much room to decorate. I still like to have a little something just to make it feel homey and welcoming.
This spring I used this little stepladder that used to be my Dad’s and created this little vignette. I like it so much that I kept the same little grouping through the summer and just changed out the pansies in the galvanized bucket to carnations and marigolds.
By the end of summer, the carnations and marigolds were looking tired and the entire vignette was looking pretty bedraggled.
I pulled out the marigolds and carnations. I try to do this when the planters have dried out, so it’s easier to remove the old plants. I use a knife or sharp hand shovel to loosen the roots. After I’ve added in the new plants, in this case mums, I will fill in holes with fresh potting mix and give it all a good drink. I also gave the vinca vine a much needed haircut.
I added some pumpkins and a little scarecrow pick to finish it off.
Around to the back deck, I have these deck rail planters all around the deck. This is how they looked earlier in the summer. They too were looking pretty tired and bedraggled by the end of summer. I did the same thing here and pulled out the annuals, leaving the vinca vine.
I added in mums, pumpkins and some little scarecrows. I kind of have a thing for scarecrows. They are so stinkin' CUTE!
This is a really fun and easy way to transition your outdoors to fall. This took me hardly any time and the cost was minimal too.
