How to Make DIY Yarn Christmas Trees For the Holidays
This DIY yarn Christmas tree is really simple to create - you can even make them with your kids. All you need are some cereal boxes and some thick, fluffy yarn. Let's get started with this super-easy winter craft!
Tools and materials:
- Cereal box or similar
- Tape
- Scissors
- Thick yarn
- Hot glue gun
- Embellishments
1. Make the cone shape out of a box
Start with a cereal box, or a similar type, like this cracker box.
Roll the box to loosen it and make it easier to work with.
Then roll into a cone shape. I started by putting the top together first. You want a tall, narrow cone. I tried making a shorter/wider one, but this was the look I was going for.
Tape together with painter's tape, or something similar. Check to make sure it sits flat.
2. Glue the yarn to the cone
Use hot glue to apply thick yarn. Start at the bottom, cover the edge completely, and work your way to the top. Make sure to keep the yarn close together.
Where to find thick yarn
Here are the two types of yarn I used: Chenille Home Heather and Cozy Blanket. I purchased mine quite a while ago, but you can find similar types at both Michaels and Walmart.
When you get to the top, cut the yarn and use hot glue on the end to make sure it doesn't fray.
3. Embellish
Glue embellishment to the top. We used felted and wood balls. A wood star would be cute, too.
