Make a Cereal Box Christmas Tree With Recycled Grocery Bags
You can make this rustic Christmas tree with a few recycled supplies from your next grocery shopping trip. No need to buy a craft cone from the craft store. It's easy to make your own out of recycled cereal box and the paper bag you brought it home in. This tree I made was about 13 inches high and 6 inches in diameter. Perfect for display on a bookshelf or dinner table.
For this project you will need a pair of scissors, a cereal box, two (or more) paper shopping bags, hot glue and a hot glue gun.
Cut out the two largest sections of the cereal box along the edge. Holding the rectangle horizontally, fold the first cardboard piece into a cone shape with a hole at the top about the width of your finger. Then place a dab of glue to secure the cardboard in it's cone shape.
Next take the second piece of cardboard and make another cone shape, only this time the top will be much larger. Before securing with glue, make sure it fits inside the bottom of the first cone. Hold with glue.
Trim off the bottom of the second piece so that when you stand it up right it doesn't lean and it is relatively straight.
Place the first cone onto the second cone and glue in place.
To cover the hole you probably have on the bottom piece, you can just take some cardboard scraps and place it over the opening. Glue in place.
Check to see how your cone stands up right. Trim the bottom as needed to stand it up straight.
Next cut large sections of your shopping bag. Mine were around 3 inches. You'll need long strips. However you want to cut the bag up is fine.
I first crimped the strips in my fist.
Then I twisted the crimped strips trying not to expose the text on the other side.
I started at the bottom with a dab of glue and slowly worked my way around the cone placing a dab of glue every couple inches.
You'll need to put your other hand inside the cone so that you can apply pressure as you glue.
Once you get to the top simply shove some of the twisted paper rope into the hole at the top to cover up the hole.
That's it! You're done. My tree leaned a bit. If you don't want to try to perfect the bottom, you can always point the lean towards you and you probably won't notice.

Kind of has a rustic look to it doesn't it? I like the texture of the crumpled paper and love that it is created using recycled materials. Place it on your mantel or dinner table. When you're all done displaying it, I'm sure you know what to do with it right? Yep, recycle it! Happy crafting everyone.
