I love having little Christmas trees all over my home. This DIY Felt Christmas Tree looks amazing on a mantel, console table, or built-in shelves!

What I love about this felt Christmas tree is that you can make a ton of them, in different sizes with slightly different colors or all the same. Make a forest of felt Christmas trees, wouldn't that look amazing!

Here is what you will need:

  • Foam cone - mine was about 3 inches wide at the base and 7 inches tall
  • Felt - the amount you need depends on the size of your foam cone
  • scissors
  • glue gun
  • glue sticks
  • a stick - I found one in my backyard
  • wood base
  • drill

Step 1

Find a stick from nature that is as straight as possible. drill a hole in the wood base that is the same width as your stick. Drop some glue in the hole you drilled and put the stick in there.

Now take your foam cone and stick it down on the other end of the stick. Make sure you can still see some of the stick which acts as the trunk of the tree.

Step 2

For my cone, I needed about 130 leaves. For the leaf, I cut a white piece of printer paper in the shape of a leaf. I totally free-handed it, it was about an inch long.

Now using that as a template cut out a ton of little leaves. I folded my felt in half and did two at a time to make it go a little faster.

Step 3

Glue your leaves to the foam cone starting at the bottom. Make sure you leave half of the leaf hanging below the cone on the bottom row to hide the bottom of the cone.

On the second row overlap the leaves in the center of the row below, sort of in a brick pattern.

Keep on going until you get to the top of the tree. For the top you want to have the last few leaves come to a point at the top above the top of the foam cone.

Absolutely adorable. One could easily make a whole forest of trees as a centerpiece for the table or fireplace mantle in various sizes along with other Christmas greenery and santas or snowmen. Simple but elegant.
