Oh Christmas Tree!

I spotted an old rusty rake and wanted to make something for a porch area. Here is what I came up with.

I gathered my supplies. An old rusty rake, buffalo plaid ribbon and material, Christmas balls, small wooden letters, jute and a long slat of board. In the end I added a few more supplies but you will see what they are in pix below.

Next, I painted the board black and then arranged the letters and wooden Christmas tree on the board. I didn’t actually have enough small wooden letters to spell out the word tree so I used this tree I found in my Christmas stash. I used wood glue to secure the letters and tree to the painted slat.

Then, on the rake, I attached the balls to the rake by tearing small strips of the fabric and jute and tieing them on in a random pattern that I thought looked good.

I predrilled holes and attached the slat to the handle of the rake using screws.

The letters were kinda blah, so I used this green paint and a small brush and painted them green and added this color to the tree also to give it a little dimension.

To bring red to the entire piece, I took red puff paint and dotted the letters and tree.

Here is the rake. I added a bow to the top of the rake. Looked good but there was no green on it like on the handle.

So I found some green jute I had from the Dollar Tree and some lighter green raffia I had and tied pieces on, again in a random pattern.

It was hard to get a picture that shows off this piece because it’s so long and narrow, but I added a bow to the top of the board and a piece to the middle to cover the screw hole. The word “oh” was outlined with a lighter green paint to help them stand out better and there you have it. I think this will look cute laying against the wall on someone’s porch!

This is really great! U could do it up any way that u like and I would even do some old shovels that are on their way out (which I seem to have too many of but can’t let go of). I’m gonna do a potted arborvitae this year (rather than drag home a giant fresh cut tree)- which I already have anyways. How neat would your rake & some old done up shovels near that be? I think really-really fun. Thank u for your idea ☺️
