DIY Air Dry Clay
I love creating things with air dry clay, but it can be expensive and I always wished it had a better feel once dried. I wasn't a fan of the foamy texture. So I decided to make my own!
This is a garland that I made for our mantel using this air dry clay recipe.
This recipe only requires three ingredients that I bet you already have in your pantry!!
Mix together:
3/4 cups of water
1/4 cup of cornstarch
1 cup of baking soda
in a small saucepan
Heat the mixture until it boils, then immediately turn the burner down to medium. The key is to stir continuously until it forms a ball and is too hard to stir (about 5-7 minutes)
Remove the mixture from the burner and let it cool down (about 5 minutes) don't wait too long or it will start to harden!
Place mixture on a piece of wax or parchment paper to mold or create whatever you'd like! If it seems too sticky, add a bit of baking soda to the surface. It will dry in about a day depending on how thick your clay creation is. Turn it a few times to ensure that all areas dry completely! I love this recipe because the finished product has a nice, almost ceramic feel to it and is much harder than other air dry clays.
