I had this old mirror for many years and thought it would be ideal to style it up a little with some broken pieces of blue china cups and plates . I begin by sorting through some already small broken pieces I had left over from previous project but you can easily put a piece of china into a pillow case or bag or without the bag use eye protection goggles smash up evenly with hammer or heavy item.
Old mirror
I sort the pieces I want to place around inner edge and those to radiate out . I like that they are blue and white in the main.
Choosing broken china pieces
I use PVA glue to stick straight into the frame and leave a small gap between tiles for grouting.
Begin to glue china onto frame
The pattern builds up and the tiny pieces spread along to the edge of frame
Gradually building up the design
The pieces then after 24 hrs are ready to grout.i use a ready mix black grout and an old credit card to spread over the tiles and work in the gaps.
Ready to grout
Spread Black Grout onto china
Continue to work in until all covered and then begin to wipe off excess grout.
Wipe off excess grout
I clean the edges and In between to bring it up bright and new looking. I love how it is transformed !
