Linda: maybe this will help

Use spray adhesive or hairspray on the edges.
I would use a spray adhesive or fold over the edges and glue down like a seam. Just and idea I am not sure it will work but maybe worth a try. Using a lighter wave the flame over the edges and see if the melt together. Do a small test piece and see.
Hi Linda. Cut your deco mesh a couple inches longer than called for. Then run a line of glue on the mesh and fold it over to create a hem. You can use hot glue or fabric glue. The hot glue will dry quicker, but it may turn opaque. The fabric glue takes longer to dry, but it dries clear. Good luck Linda. I hope you are healthy and well.
Hi Linda, this was one of my first posts but it might help you!!:

Hello. I would suggest using an adhesive if you didn’t want to use the thicker sticky glue gun perhaps using a fabric fray check adhesive could be a solution.
You can also stitch across it or use a no fray liquid. Good luck and stay safe!
There is some good information here:

Fray Check might work. It is a clear, watery substance that you apply to material to keep it from fraying. I use it on crafts often, including mesh.
I agree with Fray Check!

Fray Check should help with that
I was going to suggest the E6000 also! Good luck!
Take a iron and wax paper get the iron hot use only the tip of the iron place the wax paper over we’re you want it to stop opening up and run the hot edge along the wax paper with the mesh under it it will seal a line to stop it use the side edge.
