I've done a few. First remove all the old fabric, batting and staples/tacks. Glue down some batting or foam - depending on how soft you want it to be. Wrap new fabric in place a staple to the underneath.

I "cheated" when I did my daughter's. I took the material and placed it across the top and secured in a couple of spots with upholstery tacks. In the corners, I gathered the material and secured with a rubber band then tucked inside the corner. Then I used upholstery tacks to secure all the way around.
Hello. First do you wanna remove all the old coverings and access if you need new batting for cushioning. Then it is a process of reapplying the padding and a new fabric cover that suits your decor. A staple gun is the easiest way to reattach the new fabric cover. Those staples could be covered with another piece of fabric

I had a student who removed the old fabric and replaced it with new. She stapled it around the edges with a staple gun then added decorative metal nail heads over the staples.

Remove the Covering from the stool and use it as a template. Use a staple gun or Tacks to secure it back in place and then trim. Take care to note how it was constructed in the first place before removing the old fabric. Enjoy
