We entertain quite a few people in our 1905 house. The stairs are squeaky, walls are crooked and a lot of level changes through out. Lately it seems as the danger zone is focused on a short two step stair between a hallway and a room. We added motion detector lights but somehow they're always being turned off and unfortunately someone trips forgetting the step to go down a level. What to do, what to do? Finally figured a use for 10 three foot strings of beads I had hang in a group on the back porch.
3' strands of pre-strung beads
These are just 6 strands since I didn't think about posting this fun project until after I started assembling my curtain.
wooden hanger
I used a wooden hanger to attach the beads, pretty much the only thing I could find on hand.
drilled holes through wooden hanger
Since I had 10 bead strings I measured out where to drill 10 holes. It was a little difficult to push the string through the small holes so I drilled again with a slightly larger drill bit but still had trouble pushing the string through. Ah ha ! I lit a small candle so I could dip the ends of the string in the melted wax to stiffen the string and it worked! Easy peasy pushing the string through the holes now.
washers to secure the strings
Once through the hole I tied the string to a small washer to keep it secured on the hanger. To keep the knots from loosening I touched each knot and washer with a drop of hot glue.
beaded curtain
I used a stud finder to secure a eye hook in the ceiling and hung my pretty new bead curtain icon .
Danger zone!!!!
This photo shows the short stairs and how the beads aren't overwhelming but will be a good reminder to watch your step!
