I saw the cutest coffee placemat at WalMart and knew immediately that I could use it in a pallet!
I gathered some of my supplies of a pallet, placemat, and cup hooks.
Next, I cut the pallet pieces with my saw as shown here.
Then, I took a scrap piece from the side of the pallet I wasn’t using, and stapled it with my pneumatic gun onto the backside of the frame. I didn’t get a picture, but I also added two D hooks to the back to hang it on the wall.
This is the front of the frame. I added some clear satin Helmsman Spar Urethane to seal it and bring out the grain of the wood. Now I had a flat, even surface to adhere my placemat onto. I used E6000 to glue it down. I also set some heavy pieces of wood on top of he placemat to keep it flat until the glue dried overnight. Because wood salvaged from pallets are often irregular, I did have to cut down the placemat in a few spots but for the most part I could slide it under the horizontal pieces of the pallet wood. Make sense?
Last, I added some cup hooks.
