Cute Farm Spring Mantle Decoration

I love to decorate my mantle for the seasons. Last spring I made some cute floral paper mache teacups. This spring I have gone with embroidery and made these fun runner duck and pecking hen figures to sit on the mantle.

What you need are a small amount of plain cream linen fabric, embroidery hoop, thread, needles and cotton thread spools. Plus an iron-on transfer pen and tracing paper.

Print out my free patterns for the pecking and hen and runner duck. Link in bio at the end. Then draw around the images with the iron-on transfer pen.

Use a hot iron to transfer the pattern from the tracing paper onto the fabric.

Then place the fabric in an embroidery hoop and stitch around the design. Just use a simple running stitch.

Fill in the beak, feet and comb with coloured thread.

Next, stitch fabric on top of the designs with a 5mm margin. Then cut away the excess fabric. Leave a small gap at the bottom of the figures for stuffing.

Stuff with fiberfill, add a small skewer and stitch shut.

Cover the cotton spools with scraps of floral ribbon or floral fabric.

Then stick the skewers in the holes in the top of the spools. You might need to use a small amount of white tack to keep them in place.

These look great on my spring mantle and go really well with my very popular scrap fabric mushroom decorations.

Really like your little chicks!!! Nice job😻. Reminds me of old fashioned dolls used to make years ago. They were small and drawn, sort of like how you did the chicks- yours are so lovely 🥰. Makes me want to try them!
