A tea light holder with branches, seashells, and plastic pearls as a lovely home décor or a summer party décor. This tea light holder could also make a nice gift.
I have a thing for candles and tea light holders. For me personally, they give my home a certain vibe I like. Kind of a warm and friendly vibe – simply lovely. Although lately, I try to keep my home décor at a minimum, so that the house doesn’t look too crowded, I like creating new pieces every now and then.
So the other day, I decided to make myself a summer tea light holder that would remind me of the sea side.
As a basis, I used a simple glass. For the decoration, I used a few branches from our yard, a few seashells, plastic pearls and a cord.
First, I measured the necessary length according to the height of he glass I was using. I made sure the branches were about the same height – yet still not perfectly even. I used also parts with little flaws, as they add an extra character.
Then, I saw the branches in several pieces. I saw some of the pieces at 45 degrees angle and most of them straight.
Next, I gave the branch pieces a few coats of a matt white spray paint, in order to achieve the look of bleached driftwood from a beach. I used a very inexpensive matt white spray paint I got at a local hardware store.
I sprayed the branch pieces on one side, let them dry and then I repeated the procedure on the other side. The paint should not be perfect. It should only make the branches look like they were driftwood. Or at least that was what I was aiming for. Feel free to give them a proper coating if you like it. It is always all about personal preference and there is no right or wrong.
Once the paint was dry on both sides, I started gluing the branch pieces around the glass I was using a glue gun. Then I added a few seashells. I simply tried a few places and I glued the shells wherever I found it looked the best to me. I also glued a few plastic pearls on few places.
Then I wrapped a cord around the bottom of the tea light holder, because I thought it would add a nice extra effect.holder, because I thought it would add a nice extra effect.holder, because I thought it would add a nice extra effect.holder, because I thought it would add a nice extra effect.
Then my tea light holder was done. I filled the glass with a bit of sand and put a tea light in it. Done!
This tea light holder is definitely not only a lovely home décor, but would also make a great present. You could also use such tea light holder as a summer party décor. I even think that such tea light holders could be used as a wedding decor.
