I’m here today with a quick and easy DIY home decor hack that you can master in 3 steps or less to achieve a look that’s super high-end.
Begin with some basic inexpensive vases. I found these at my local Dollar Store.
LARGE STROKES VASE
Step One
Turn the Vase upside down and spray the outside in the color of your choice. Allow to dry.
Step Two
Paint sweeping brush strokes in a contrasting color. Allow to dry.
Step Three (optional)
Coat vase in high gloss clear lacquer.
DRIPPY SPATTER VASE
Step One
Dip your artist’s brush in paint and randomly swirl throughout interior of vase. Allow to dry.
For a simple tone-on-tone look, you can stick with one acrylic paint color and a contrasting spray paint color.
For my project, I used three shades of acrylic (a light blue, navy, and emerald), then added a neutral spray paint for the backdrop.
Step Two
Tape the rim of the vase with painter’s tape. Cover remainder of vase in aluminum foil and then tape the neck to secure.
Spray paint inside of vase in contrasting color.
Your brush strokes will be visible in front of your base layer spray paint, despite reversing the painting steps.
Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Teri, I really want to try some of your vase techniques. Good directions except I only find the first couple of steps to the wallpaper vase. What does one do after placing wall paper inside and covering with foil? Thanks
