Dollhouse Ceiling Fan
The rule of thumb is this. If you’re uncomfortably hot inside your house, Barbie is probably uncomfortably hot inside her house, too. So what better way to remedy that than to build her a ceiling fan? My latest addition to my custom Barbie house is this little modern dollhouse ceiling fan. With a hot glue gun, some popsicle sticks, a wine cork, and one doll’s eye, it can be made in one afternoon.
First, cut 3 large popsicle sticks to 4.5 inches in length.
Mark three dots evenly spaced apart on the top of a wine cork. These will indicate placement for the fan blades.
Using an X-Acto knife, make three angled cuts (one below each dot) that are wide enough for the blade to slide into. Once the blades are in place, you can further secure them with a small dab of hot glue.
If you feel the cork is too tall, trim a small piece off the top.
It is now ready to be painted. Apply two coats of black craft paint.
I racked my brain about what could be used to replicate a light on the fan. The little modern fan was so cute, it deserved an equally realistic light package. I finally came across some plastic doll eyes in my craft stash. The package was unopened, as I’d never used them. They’re creepy. But I suddenly developed a new respect for the googly eyes. I made a small slit in the plastic covering, just large enough to remove the eyeball. Then I glued the globe onto the bottom of the cork. Voila. A darling little dollhouse ceiling fan that isn’t creepy at all.
