Easy Can Lanterns
Do you love repurposing and upcycling things? Me too! After using some canned goods I rinsed out the cans and turned them into something cute for my yard! You can see more of my crazy creations here
I started by rinsing out the cans and removing the labels.
I filled the cans with ice and water and placed them into the freezer.
The ice makes the can solid so that I can work with it without the can collapsing.
I placed the frozen can on a towel. I used gloves to protect my hands from the cold. I used a dry erase marker to make a design on my can.
I used a punch and hammer to make small indents where my heart design marks were.
I used a small drill bit, placed it onto the dimples made by the punch, and drilled through the can.
I let the ice melt out of the can.
I spray painted the cans with spray paint. I used gold and copper.
I used Waverly Chalk paint to color in the center of the heart.
Once it was dry, I tied some jute cord around to be the handle.
You can place a lot of things inside these cans. I'm making them into a lantern. If you use jute for the handle, then I don't recommend an active flame inside the can.
I love how they turned out, and I'm using battery-operated LED lights that are waterproof inside my cans.

Sorry, right now, I haven't got many spare minutes to share with anyone. I am the primary caregiver for my husband and it takes a lot of my time.

Mary Lou……I too walk in your shoes…but try to carve a few minutes each day just for you….maybe before he gets up, during his afternoon nap or after he goes to sleep! 💕

Why did you need to freeze it? I've drilled cans without doing that. Does it make it easier?
