I love the look of Kate Spade! I love the clean lines, simple designs and crisp bold colours. I also like that the pieces in this product line are also very practical including their fashion, home and office accessories. What I don't like is that these lovely pieces are out of my budget unless I am lucky enough to find something I really like on sale.
I also like having a few clipboards around the house to use for different purposes. For example I like to have a clipboard in my kitchen to set on my cookbook stand. This is where I insert a recipe that I have clipped out of a magazine or printed off on the printer. The clipboard helps the recipe nicely stay in place while I am cooking.
I was looking for a clipboard that could stay sitting on the cookbook stand and add to the decor in my kitchen. I didn't want just a plain vinyl 'office looking' one so this is what I created.

I was looking for a clipboard that could stay sitting on the cookbook stand and add to the decor in my kitchen. I didn't want just a plain vinyl 'office looking' one so this is what I created.
Start with a basic black vinyl portfolio style clipboard.
Cover the front and back on the outside evenly with black and white Duck Tape.
Notice how I started each strip inside the clipboard and wrapped it around the outside.
Next, I placed coordinating Washi tape along the inside edge to cover the uneven ends of the Duck Tape.
Lastly, I placed gold purchased stickers along the lower left side and along the bottom edge to spell the word 'clipboard'.
This Kate Spade inspired portfolio clipboard now sits full time on my kitchen island in a scrolled black metal cookbook stand. With just a bit of Duck Tape and Washi tape it is now a very stylish and useful accessory in my kitchen!
