Hi everyone! Hope y'all are having a happy holiday!
I was gifted a new type of crafting tool a few weeks ago and I have been practicing using it by painting different things on glass so if I messed up or just didn't like it I would be able to wipe it right off. I mentioned this tool in a tutorial called Rock'n Wood Candle Holders and was asked "What is that?", so I thought I would show y'all what it is, how to use it and what I've been doing with it.icon
Okay, it came in that plastic box container with a flip lid which is great to keep all the tool parts together in one spot! That is a pro! You only get 2 bottles with the kit, that is a con icon ! I will tell you why this is a con...
With only 2 bottles you have to clean them and the needles every time you want to use another coloricon . Well this could be solved if that little blue top would fit onto other paint bottles but it doesn't fit any of my paint bottles. That is a con! So I have 5 different paint colors I want to use in a practice painting. I used the cobalt and laguna colors first. I tried to fill the bottle with very little paint because I wasn't sure how much I would need. When I tried to squeeze the bottle the paint wouldn't come out ... hmmm... must not have enough paint in it to press out so I added more paint. The needles are in different sizes which is a pro! A bigger needle means a bigger dot or line of paint and the opposite for the smaller needles. You can really get a sharp line in a tight spot with the smaller needles! I like that icon ! Also make sure you don't have any lumps of paint in the bottle because it will get stuck in the needle and you will have to clean it out or blow it out.
I used the tool to paint this from an image I saw on the web. It took about 2 hours to paint. I probably could paint that with a brush in about the same amount of time but I would have to be a lot more careful and steady with a brush. You can lay the needle down on the surface and use it like a pencil or pen and draw the image. So I'm saying that is a pro! It makes great even sized dots and nice lines if you squeeze it right then you can fill it in with easy but you do have to learn how to squeeze it right.
The squeezing of the bottle was fine at first but after about an hour or so my thumb started to hurt. That would be a con for me.
My fingers will get stuck like this sometimes when I type or squeeze a plastic bottle for two hours icon !
The biggest pro for me with this tool is the lines and dots you can make with it. You can also use it for gluing things like beads or anything where you might need to be more precise. I have already started a medallion on canvas so I will keep using it and hopefully the more I use it the less it will hurt my hand. I'm also going to find out if I can get more bottles and blue tops. I will probably wipe this peacock off and do something else because I can see my mess ups and it will drive me crazy if I can't fix 'em right!
Well that's it so far!icon
