I have an insanely simple crafts project to jazz up your porch. After writing the post 10 Stunning Floors That Will Knock Your Socks Off, I became ever so slightly obsessed with the thought of using Stencils to make my home look pretty.I wanted to create a doily style door mat so I chose the half moon mandala style stencil to create said effect. I am crazy about stencils now! I can’t wait to use this half doily all over my house.
This is the finished door mat looking all pretty! You can't see it in this image but I sprayed the mat underneath a metallic, shimmering gold.
Originally I was going to use chalk paint until I remembered that it was water based and would wash away in the rain. So, I got my hands on some spray paint. Don't allow the cat to be around or breathing outside air while you are using spray paint. Don't forget to wear a mask!
Here is a slightly better shimmer image. Grab a gigantic cardboard box or something to spray the doormat inside. 1.Spray the door mat a base colour if you wish. 2.Allow To Dry3.Lay the Stencil down and fix with masking tape or something similar4.Spray in a contrasting Colour 5. Allow the contrasting colour to dry and reposition, then respray.Depending on the spray paint, you may need to spray a few coats.
Ta Dahhhhhh!I told you it was an insanely simple DIY to make! To find out where I got my adorable slippers, you'll just have to check out the post!Several months later, through one winter and out the other side, I can say with confidence that the mat has survived Irish wet weather. Which is great news! Although it may need a respray after the next winter. Would you consider spraying a door mat for your home?
