I’ve had this project on my mind for a long time. I’ve collected numerous jars to cut the tops off of. For some reason I was very intimidated to try this project. When I finally tried it, it was surprisingly easy.

I started with this glass bottle cutting kit from Amazon.

Here are the bottles that I used. I had an assortment of fun and plain jars.

You adjust the bracket to set the line on bottle where you want the bottle to separate. For instance on this bottle, I wanted to keep the picture.

Then you carefully spin the bottle using medium pressure to score a line around the bottle.

Once you have your line…

You take two rubber gaskets…

Place one on each side of your scored line. This is where you will want to make sure that your line isn’t close to where the bottle slopes inward. Otherwise the gasket keeps rolling off.

Now holding the bottle over a container of cold water pour boiling water on the scored line, rotating the bottle to get it all the way around.

Plunge into the cold water bath, alternating between the boiling water and cold water until it separates.

I held it over a garbage can and used the provided sand paper to smooth the top edge on the bottle.

I think the top would be great to put in planters to use like a funnel for watering.

Get ready for the flower spam.

I just love how they all came out.

I think with the right bottle this could be a pretty Easter or Mother’s Day gift.

Have you ever tried bottle cutting?

I have some bottles that I want to cut and make into hanging lights.

One $6.99 Trader Joe’s bouquet and I have an arrangement for several rooms plus a gift for my mom.

It’s been a long winter and I love how happy seeing these flowers makes me feel.

What are your favorite flowers for arrangements?

I had such a hard time picking out a bouquet because there were so many different arrangements and I loved them all.

My daughter loved this calla lily so this is the bouquet we ended up with.

What could you use these jars for? Makeup brush holders…

If you sand the rims really well, could you use the jars/bottles for drinking glasses? Thank you!

Wow wished I saw this sooner. I just cleaned out my cabinets and got rid of at least 25 bottles/jars of all sizes. Great post
