High Stylin' Steamer Trunk
This steamer trunk has been in my client's family since the 1850's. How cool is that to have such an extraordinary piece handed down for over 160 years?
My client's mother had painted the entire chest many years ago and my client was ready to have it restored and restyled.
The handles were missing so I began searching for replacements to match the style of the original.
EVERYTHING was painted, so my first step was cleaning the hardware and leather.
Next up, tackling the inside. The original lining was disintegrating so Mom had tacked wallpaper inside the trunk.
Under the wallpaper, the original lining was in such bad shape, it needed to be removed.
Once the wallpaper and lining were gone, the wood was in great shape for its age! I knew I didn't want to cover it up again!
Wait until you see the AFTER of this refinished trunk! You won't believe how it looks now! See the entire process on my blog.
