Upcycled Tin Wall Vase

Hey everyone! So sometimes you go out on field trips to find something for a specific project you have in mind and sometimes it finds you. Recently I saw a cute tin wall vase at a thrift store and since I didn’t really have a need for it, I passed it up. Unfortunately, it was one of those things where once you get home, you think to yourself “Crap, that would be so cute if I…I should have bought that!” So a few days later I went back. At first I didn’t see it so I asked someone and they had no idea what I was talking about. Bummer. I took one more lap around and there, in the back of a pile on a side table peaking out from some other stuff, was my tin and it was only $2.
So I scooped it up and headed on my way. It had a really pretty scroll-y detail but needed a serious clean up and, of course, a good coat of chalk paint. So that’s what it got…
I thought about adding some burlap to the inside and wrapping it around the top but then then I found this key in my craft drawer and decided to do something a bit different…
It still didn’t feel like it had enough character so I sanded down a few spots and then I added a few bunches of cotton branches and here’s how it turned out…
I think this tin wall vase project that “found me” turned out super cute. I really like the way it looks against the grey in the dining room and I especially like that it only cost $2 since I already had the other stuff. I think it was definitely worth going back for. There are a few other things I can think of that I wish I had purchased over the years but live and learn, right? Is there something you wish you had gone back for and rescued? If so, I hope you find one again some day…or it finds you. 🙂
