Give your walls an easy update and some style with this easy DIY.

I wanted to give this empty room something to look at. I decided to do an easy feature wall with floor to ceiling wall molding.

I started by taping off the wall and laying down a tarp to keep paint off the floor. Next I painted the wall Sherwin Williams Comfort gray in a semi gloss finish.

Once the wall was dry I used a primed 1X4 pine board at the bottom. I placed this board on top of my baseboard. This did leave a little gap, you could remove your baseboard to get rid of this gap. I used a saw to cut the boards to the size I needed but if you don’t have a saw Home Depot can cut the boards for you.

I also added 1X4 boards to the top of the wall near the ceiling and on both ends of the wall. Next up I placed these 1X2 primed pine boards until I decided on how far apart I wanted the boards. I decided to go with 24” apart.

I attached all of the primed pine boards using a nail gun. I chose this space so that I would avoid the outlets.

I used wood filler to fill in the nail holes on the boards and caulk to fill the gaps between the boards and the walls. After this I painted the boards the same color as the wall, Sherwin Williams Comfort Gray. I used semi gloss paint.

Now the wall is complete.

I also did this to our master bedroom. I painted an accent wall, same color used in our newly painted bathroom, Sherwin Williams one coat Evening Eclipse sold at Lowe’s. Could not decide on lumber strips, whether to buy and paint same colored as wall. Went another direction. I used Inteplast Group Building Products, sold at Lowe’s. 1/2 inch by 8 feet. Color of Sierra Brown. Blends in beautifully with my old fashion brown doors, and frames. But, it also stands out from the painted wall. I painted the other three walls in a grayish beige. Very light weight, I did all the work myself, cut, used Liquid Nails glue, few finishing nails, for the lumber is so light. I am almost 70 years old, went up and down easy with the wood. Have had many compliments from family, and friends who have had their COVID-19 shots. Love it, a little different. Kay

Forgot to say, your wall is really awesome. Love the color. Makes a big difference when you add the lumber strips. Simple, but very elegant. Kay
