I Made My Own Abstract Line Art for My Dining Room !

The only thing that I had in my dinning room was my dining table and some curtains ! I was searching long and hard to put something up on my walls . I wanted some art and I wanted it to be big enough to encompass my walls, but I didn’t want to have to spend an arm and a leg. I went to Walmart and picked up a few items and voila my space was a little bit more inviting ♥️

In my head I had imagined some abstract work of art . I’m no artist , but I thought abstract was subjective and I could pull it off !

🌱Step 1: I headed to Walmart to purchase two 18x24 picture frames to place my art in.

🌱Step 2: I bought two sheets of very affordable construction paper to draw on. You can upgrade by using fancier better quality paper , but this worked for my budget ! I used the sheet that came in the frame for size reference. I used that sheet to cut out my construction paper.

🌱Step 3:I drew a large square about one inch away from all sides of the page . Then , I started drawing my abstract line art centered on the construction paper ( I wanted to leave this part white for my finished projects) . I decided to draw abstract line art of the woman’s body. Through this experience I learned that drawing bodies is very difficult 😂, but I kept going and did my best . I drew before painting so that I had an idea of the size I wanted my art to be. After I drew I erased and started painting .

The decor is my home is mostly neutral so I wanted to paintings to match my dining area and most of the Home.

🌱Step 4: I chose two different neutral colors for the base of my drawings. I painted the large square I had drawn in the center.

🌱Step 5: I then used professional acrylic paint level two for what I call my paint smears (You do not need professional paint. You can achieve the same look with regular acrylic paint). I wanted there to be some line art on white paint as well so with the white paint I smeared various designs all throughout .

Here is a reference on the stroke patterns I used over the neutral paint. I made 4 total designs ( one on each construction paper) I had more construction paper I had bought . I decided I could switch out the pictures throughout the year !

🌱Step 6: Using black acrylic paint level 2 ( again, you can use marker or more affordable paint to achieve the same look) I started to draw my line art.

I didn’t connect all my lines together. I liked the look of leaving gaps. Maybe that’s the part that makes it’s abstract! Either way , I loved it.

Here are some of the practice images I drew before I started my painting .

There is no better feeling than finishing a project and being proud of the outcome. It’s perfect for my home and I hope to inspire you to make beautiful art for your home . Also, My eldest son who is 4 mentioned to me that the drawing on the left looked like squidward and he’s not wrong 😂.

Here are the other two paintings I did . They embody my everyday hairstyle . Fancy mom bun 😂. One is painted with own neutral color and other with another neutral color .

I like the second set better than the first, but they are both great! Question, though: What on earth is a squidwart?! 😄
