Found this awesome table at a yard sale ... price was good and the carving and detail too good to pass up.

I am a chalk paint fanatic, so I painted this in two coats of a color called flour sack. ( no prep or sanding required). Then I ran a sanding block over the edges and wear points, cleaned off the dust, then applied a coat of dark wax and buffed it out a little VOILA.....

The paint and wax really brings out the details
look at the beautiful feet!
and the drawer fronts....

it is so funny that your generation loves this painted and distressed and my generation-very old-paid big bucks for it and were so proud of owning it ......I get a chuckle out of the change every time I see it and I see it a lot! I swear everything and its brother is now swathed in "chalk paint".

@Judy The trend probably started when manufacturers turned to cheaper, less attractive wood or plastic type materials or MDF boards. Here the original top looks to be good.

Yes it is, I am 50 and I can remember even in my 30s you rarely saw painted furniture and no one would have dared painted a piece of oak or mahogany! It is all a fashion trend like clothing and it will evolve back around eventually I think! A lot has to do with people liking their homes to be bright and airy looking and too much wood furniture darkens it up so much.

@Nell Morris There are light wood stains and light-colored veneers out there.
