Winter is dragging its heels. What a wonderful time for a dose of Spring encapsulated in a four-acre conservatory at Longwood Gardens.
The Orchid Extravaganza is in bloom until March 29th.Thousands of orchids,as well as spring-blooming bulbs, light up the conservatory at Longwood Gardens. They are displayed in every way imaginable; topiaries, flowerbed and container plantings, hanging baskets and sculptures.
Exotic colors and rare varieties are on show. There are also naturalized woodland-style plantings to enjoy.
Each area of the conservatory is filled with bloom and the scent of lilies, gardenias and citrus flowers.
Longwood has an Orchid Room display year-round dedicated to rare finds and education about these well-loved plants.
For those of you at a distance who need to shake off the winter, I hope this little tour put you in a springy mood!
