I found this desk at a local farmers market $40
The finished project.
It was ok but had chips, scratches and dents. I wanted to see if chalk painting was really sooo easy.
I gathered up my supplies. White lace Ceramcoat chalk paint, spray bottle with plain water, brush, sanding block and cloth. I removed hardware and soaked in vinegar water with baking soda.
I sanded and cleaned my piece. Wiped dust and dirt from surfaces. They say you don’t need to do this step but this desk needed a little love.
There are two techniques you can use with chalk paint. You can add water to the paint making it thinner. Or you can spray water on wood then paint to give it a textured look. I actually did both. And it took 2 costs to achieve the look I was after. Don’t be intimidated with chalk paint. It’s very forgiving and fun....

Still needed to paint area below....
I used wedding paper from recent craft project (posted here) to line drawers.
I really love this piece. It is in my dining room and will mostly function as buffet for family gatherings.
I haven’t waxed the piece as suggested because I may use water based varnish instead. Waiting for cooler weather so I can open windows.
Suggested materials:
  • Ceramcoat white lace chalk paint,   (Jo-Ann fabric)
  • Brush, spray bottle, sanding block on hand
