I found this piece at an online garage sale Brought it home and realized I had errands to run. I had no idea it was going to rain that day and I left it outside on my porch. I came home and found with bare wood. All the veneer had became wet from the rain and lifted off and was laying beside the cabinet. I removed what little was left and worked with what I had. It took days for me to realize it would look ok without the veneer.
i cleaned the piece really well and began sanding it. Since the veneer was off I didn't really know what to do. I had never removed veneer much less tried to make something pretty after falling apart. This was a new thing for me and one of my first projects.
I went ahead with painting in homemade cream chalk paint. The whole time wondering how I could be so careless and to leave this to ruin. It had no top now. I then went and found some old fencing near my barn I had and measured and used it. I stained it in special walnut and nailed it on to the cabinet. I thought it was a secretary desk but I'm still not sure.
finished up with painting and the top and thought it needed something more. I make my own appliqués which I was also new at doing and it turned out fine. I glued it on with wood gorilla glue and thought it still needed more. That's when I grabbed the java stain gel and wiped it all over. Turned out Great.
