An Easy IKEA Hack for the Bekvam Stool

My husband really wanted to build 2 steps tools for our kids. However, I was able to convince him that rather than build his own, maybe we should semi-DIY it. Thankfully he agreed. Luckily, IKEA is about 15 minutes from our house and was an easy experience getting in and out of the store!

The stools were $20 apiece. Everything else we used from what we had on-hand. I really wanted the stools to coordinate with our decor rather than be a bright color.

We painted the legs two coats of bright white paint. We sanded in between coats . You can see a more detailed tutorial on my blog.

Then, two coats of dark walnut stain was applied to the treads.

To give the stools an extra touch, we wanted them personalized. Each toddler now knows which is 'their stool!'

After two coats of matte poly, we re-assembled the stools.

And here they are! It was an easy hack that allows the kids some independence in the bathroom and fits in with our home.
