Rescued Table. Canadian Handmade Antique
I am in the process of making, finding, restoring and rebuilding all the furniture for a cabin we are building on a 10 acre piece of land we own on a treed mountain top in British Columbia, Canada.
We want all primitive or handmade Canadian antiques , so I have been searching for old furniture and if I can’t find what I want, I will make replicas.
At a yard sale, the seller let me look through things they had decided to throw out, they had put their garbage in an old chicken coop on their property. I found a few things and forced her to take some money from me.
The first thing I redid was an old table..
The drawer was not in the table when I got it. Soon I knew why.
The drawer didn’t fit! It stuck out about 15 inches.
The top of the table had been drawn on with markers
and paint, and had been gouged
It looked rough.
Really rough, it even had nails pounded into it. So, I sanded it, and sanded it and sanded it some more.
Instead filling holes with wood, I filled holes an plots with glue and used sanding dust to fill them.
Even the crackers were filled this way

Wiping off excess glue with a damp clothes before it dries makes re sanding much easier
Nail holes filled
The split leg was glued and clamped for 24 hours. A big hole was the last hole to be filled in the table top
Started with 40 grit sandpaper and worked up to 220 grit. Then stained it with Minwax special walnut and applied 3 coats of semigloss varathane to the top and 2 to the legs and sided.
This is it after being given 3 coats of varathane clear, semi-gloss.
