Redo That Old Leather Couch
We have a great comfortable sofa that will electrically recline. But the light color had worn off. Not really wanting to invest in a new one I researched how to dye it.
I cleaned it with soap and water then rubbed it all over with acetone. I began using a shoe and leather dye. You have to use small daubers because cloth just soaks the due up and doesn't really cover. The applicators come with the dye.
This is the first coat. It took much more product then I ordered 8 oz so I found a leather craft shop in town and purchased more.
Not sure how many coats it took. I just keep putting it on until the color was correct. It is thin like water.
Some places did not soak the dye so I re applied acetone and tried again. Finally or was the right color. Then I applied a leather finish treatment. The whole thing dried really quickly. It's not perfect but my husband came home and thought I'd purchased a new coach
And it doesn't come off on our clothes. I rubbed with a paper towel and no color came off.
