Before we moved we had a beautiful living room, we loved the colour so we use it again in our new home - problem - the difference in light from a south east facing romm to a north west facing room. The brown varied between brown orange and pink depending on the light; ICK.
Before. Dark brown espresso mantel and our two toned brown walls ( you will see them turn orange as the project moves along... it looks yucky.. ewww)
I bought 2 broken corbels for $2.50 each. I used construction adhesive to glue them back together and painted them grey and then white
White on top of the grey
Black marbling lines
Taped off the fireplace and painted Beauti-tone "London Road"grey and the dark mantle white. Look the wall beside it is turning orange as the sun changes position!
Taped off the fireplace and painted Beauti-tone "London Road"grey and the dark mantle white
Add dark grey "splotches of paint and spray with water.. soften the edges into the white
Keep spraying ansd blencing and then add dark lines to simulate veins a small paint brush
I put up the corbels, but because the were the the meant to put on a screw and allow to "drop" into the slot, I could not do that with the mantel already tin place. So I filled the holes up with construction adhesive and put small nails into the fireplace, headless 1 1/2 inch nails, hold up and attach with painters tape plus 1 snail at the bottom for support. if you look carefully you can see the nail at the very bottom of the corbel
Painted the other walls Beauti-tone "Marseilles"
Day 2, after painting the walls all light grey I decided to go with the dark gray on the stair "shelf-rail" We painted the stairwell walls light grey too.
Put in a couple of sidetables we had, and ... Tada!!!

It looks fabulous; changing the colors made a world of difference. I just wonder - is that a working FP?
