This little stool/bench has been in my family for a long time. It originally belonged to my father. I watched him shine many a shoe using this kit.
It is pretty beat up but it is a solid piece. What I was looking for was a step stool for my bathroom. This would work in a pinch but it isn't tall enough so I started thinking how else I could repurpose it.
Cute label inside!
Flip up lid and storage inside.
I started off by giving it a cleaning and sanding it with 150 grit paper. It had a lot of rough edges and splinters. I wiped it down with a tack cloth. I had white water based paint left over from another project so I added enough water to make a glaze-like finish. I used a chip brush because they are inexpensive.
I love how it turned out.
Best part is the storage for bars of soap. With a 24" vanity things can get a bit cramped.
It's even handy to put extra things on if you want to take a soak.
Suggested materials:
  • Brush, sandpaper   (All on hand)
  • Left over paint   (On hand)
