Bookcase Cat Climber

We adopted two kittens this summer. I knew before we brought them home that they'd need a cat climber. I wanted something they could climb quickly to get away from the kiddos but also something with some scratching space on it. I also wanted it to be in a location where they could watch us moving about the house.
Well, the location was easy but it would mean displacing a bookcase. This bookcase:
Then I had a better idea!
Instead of ditching the bookcase, I made a few modifications to it. Check out my blog to see how I turned a clutter-ridden bookcase into an attractive and functional kitten playground ...
... and a safe place for them to snuggle and snooze.

Please check out my blog for more information on how you can convert a bookcase into a cat climber. It's easy, really!

How ADORABLE! You have made a great space for them. I love watching "My Cat from Hell" on Saturday nights and Jackson Galaxy strongly suggests escape routes and personal spaces for cats up and away from the family. They go a little nuts if they don't have this! Your furry babies look very happy!
    • @Jeanette S We have 2 energetic little boys and while I'm a stay at home mom, I can't keep them from chasing the kitties at all times so I really wanted to make sure the cats had a safe place to go. We also have a baby gate with one bar removed in our bedroom doorway so if they want to sleep on a bed undisturbed, that's the place to be. Amelia, the multicolored beauty, loves the top basket while Teddy prefers the carpeted shelf although he joins her in the basket from time to time. They're such sweet kitties. We are so blessed.

Oh my goodness congrats on your new adopted fur babies! I adopted two kitties as well and have been needing to get them some kind of cat tree. This is a great idea!
    • @Hannah V It was really so easy to do. The link I provided shows some additional views. Make sure you stagger the holes you put in the shelves. Mine make a bit of a zigzag that works great. That top shelf features fake book fronts so the cats go up behind it to get to the top. It's funny when they peek over the top too.
