Bookshelf Makeover: From Plain To Custom Bookshelves

Custom furniture is so expensive. Being able to make over plain furniture to make it look more custom is a great way to save a lot of money on your home's decor.
We have been setting up a home office in our home and I wanted a pair of bookshelves in the office. After waiting patiently for a pair I liked, I came across two that would work perfectly at my local Restore. The problem was that they didn't look like I wanted them to.
That was no problem. After a few trim additions to the top and sides of each bookshelf, they looked much more custom and exactly what I was looking for in the office.
I gave them a couple of coats of soft gray paint and they look brand new! I also added a pop of pattern and color to the back of them with one of my favorite materials to use on projects like this.
Now, these bookshelves will help with lots of storage in the office, but if we are being totally honest, I really wanted them to give me another excuse and spot to decorate over and over again! :-)
