When trying to think of ways to brighten a dark corner of my back garden, where lack of direct sun sometimes makes it challenging to grow things, I came across online these wood butterfly laser cut pieces . I thought I would experiment with how these would look painted and placed on my plain garden fence to bring colour and summer vibes to a dark corner!

Laser cut Butterfly.

I begin by pencil drawing on the patterns I got an idea from some butterfly images and chose a mix of a few I thought would be simple and striking. I use a dark blue acrylic paint pen to outline and colour the inner shapes.

I continue highlighting and colouring in with yellow, orange and gold paint pens to bring the piece to life.

Adding orange paint to butterfly.

I like the idea of it having shimmer texture and depth of interest so I begin adding some pale gold.

Adding shimmer

The piece starts to get personality and I choose the colours as I go and don’t really have set idea just going with instinct.

Adding colour and detail to butterfly templa.

The last few touches and nearly finished. Dots and outlined in black to make the colours pop!

I also give it a protective cover of weatherproofing mod podge sealant.

Butterfly Garden Fence Decor

I use a simple screw and wire hanging on the back to hang on a nail the fence.

It really does catch your eyes as you see it and I cant wait to do some more in various colours!
