Moving into our new house we knew there was going to be alot of work to do, the garden being the biggest tackle.

The previous tenant was bed bound for 10 years you can only imagine how bad the 130 foot garden had got.

The wall was cracked/broken and in a bad state

I was unsure what to do with the wall for so long

Getting my tools out the shed wondering what I could do. I started to come up with a plan.

I went to our local b&q store and purchased some cheap decking boards, they was around £7 each

I bought some mending plates and deck screws these are great for joining wood

I laid some decking on the wall to visualise what it would look like if I covered the wall with them.

I lined up the decking and drilled them together to fit around the wall

I used the mending plates on the inside, only using them on the outside when I couldn't put them anywhere else. I used them to join all the deck boards together.

I was going to criss cross the deck boards but didn't bother as I'll be placing an ornaments on this corner.

I'm undecided whether I'll paint or varnish the decking yet. But for a diy enthusiast I'm pretty impressed with myself.

I am in no way shape or form a professional but this is proof you can make improvements to your home yourself with some enthusiasm.

This all came in under £100

Much better looking! You might consider finishing with spar varnish whether you paint or not. It’s used for boats and does a good job protecting from the elements

I vote for varnish. I think the wood element is great!
