This dresser was in pretty good shape, only a few areas needed attention.

Prepping for this was a bit challenging. I had to sand the top due to some really deep scratches.

I finally got it smooth enough. I’m using a palm sander which doesn’t go too fast because I’m sanding inside, it doesn’t fly everywhere.

I’m using fusion paint which is a mineral paint. You can find this on Amazon or look for suppliers in your area. This one is called chateau. I wanted it to be light as I’m adding a stencil.

Once sanded, I cleaned it down with krud cutter. This can be found at Home Depot.

Ok, so this happens now and then and it’s a nightmare, but thank goodness for stain blocker!

Unfortunately this didn’t work for me, I put four coats of this on and nothing! I usually use the spray, but couldn’t find it.

I took a break, then the next day I went to the Home Depot and bought two cans of the spray. It worked like a treat!

While I waited for the paint to dry I stenciled the sides of the drawers with this French poetry stencil.

I ordered this large stencil on Amazon, it fit so perfectly on this dresser. I used a light gray color for this.

I kept the original hardware because it’s so beautiful. I can’t imagine any other hardware on this piece.

I absolutely love everything about this dresser.

This color is one of my favorites now from fusion.

The poetry just adds more detail to the drawers.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you were inspired to create your own unique piece!

How did you get the stencil to work on the raised areas? I don't have a French themed bedroom. Were there other stencils?

By any chance was there a metal (maybe brass) medallion in the center of the top drawer? I have the entire bedroom set including the sleigh bed that is mission the medallion. It belonged to my parents. I would love to locate a medallion to finish the restoration.
