Those are really great pieces! Before you try to do a full refinish, perhaps try using "Restore-A-Finish" and see if that will help with the surface scratches. It really does a nice job with furniture that is not too damaged and will enhance the grain of the wood. As far as the knobs go, in this case I would put the matching knobs together on one piece and then try to find another set that matches or looks similar and use them for the other piece. Or, I would use the two from the top of the tall dresser to replace the missing one. Then find something pretty for the top two. They don't have to be the exact same ones, just something similar. You can find tons of them on Ebay like this: Vintage Antique Solid Brass Drawer Pulls Floral Design Dresser Knobs | eBay Just polish all of the brass so that it appears to be matching.

  • I agree! Try to keep that beautiful wood. The small chips I see can be blended in.

Hello. Very exciting project. Please consider popping by this bloggers website for her wonderful accessories and furniture chalk painted rehabs. She details useful repair products, techniques and has a nice result. Many items are from the thrift store or furniture pieces donated to her are given—— a glorious new life.

From the link below -You will see an overwhelming library of her chalk painted products as well as go to her YouTube channel to see the demonstrations of the chalk painting. I was viewing them yesterday.

Yes, try the Restore A Finish to blend in the chips. It is way too pretty to paint, the natural grains are just beautiful.

For the knobs, take 1 from the very top piece and move it to the spot where the 1 is missing, ahh, balance. Then remove the other top knob and keep it as a replacement. Then find something that will approximate the 2 top knobs, flea markets, Amazon...here's one that has lots too:

It is too beautiful to paint. The veneer is amazing. You can repair the chips with Minwax Blend Fil pencils. They come in all wood tones. It's a wax type pencil. Just gently rub it over the chips to fill them in. Use a wet finger to smooth it out. Yes move the knobs down to the missing ones from the top. Replace the top ones with glass knobs or if you can find something close. You can replace the ring on the one drawer handle with a curtain ring. A good cleaning and a coat of clear paste wax (not spray) will protect and prevent the veneer from chipping.

Beautiful set. I would not paint it. That would ruin it in my opinion. Restore it, please.

I completely agree that the waterfall set is too beautiful to paint. You have good advice on restoring various parts. IF you want to paint anything, please just keep it to the bedframe.

  • I went to an antique store and they had a bucket full of old knobs and believe it or not, I found what I needed. Perhaps you could try that to find something that matches. If not you might be able to find something appropriate to use instead. Good luck!

Replace all the knobs so they aren't damaged & missing. If the chips are in the white section you can fill with wood putty and repaint. If it's in the wood area, I would probably leave it alone since it is such an unusual piece and super cool.

Hi Suanne: I think a good cleaning and some new knobs would be nice on the top. Use one of those knobs to replace the one that's missing on the lower drawer and put some nifty new knobs on the top part. Keep the left over knob as a spare. Is it possible that the handle with the missing ring has the part that the ring goes through? You may be able to get a new ring and, perhaps a new carrier for it if it's broken. Minwax Blend Fil pencils should take care of the chips. It's a beautiful old piece, I can see why you love it.

  • Replace all the knobs with a matching set

  • I agree with the others, try to blend in the chips with paint pens, etc. and then take the knobs off and find new ones at a hardware store or even a place like Hobby Lobby.

I would replace all the knobs/handles so they match and clean the piece really well and then use a paint pen to match the wood and it should look great

First remove all drawers. Inspect the cabinet and drawers for any joints that are loos. Repair the. The cabinet frame looks like its painted, so sand down and re paint. Lightly sand the drawer fronts and finish them with a stain or clear coat. Install new pulls

I also vote for restoring it and not painting it.

a complete set of matching Art Deco furniture is hard to find.

Yes stain pens or even artists markers come in a myriad of tones.

There are kneaded putties that have stain in them that the pros use and you can watch some YT videos.

let us see it when you’re done, please

You could repaint it and find a couple new knobs

Hi, paint it, I love chalk paint, you could pick a pastel pale color like they had in the 50's, and pick out some new hardware that looks antique, or source some at second hand stores.

My Grandparents had this same bedroom set. Not the dresser, but the bed and the vanity. I love it.

I would love to see what you decided to do with the set. I have a similiar set, no headboard though...it has chips and burns and water marks...and so much more...I want to "restore" or fix it myself but can't figure it out..

After much discussion with my husband we decided to try the wood putty and to work on saving the knobs. Then if that does work we will for sure put a sealer on it!!
