Stripping Furniture With Oven Cleaner
I’ve seen this furniture stripping method all over social media & decided to give it a try. If you’ve been here for a while you’ll remember me working with these table a few times. I’ve stained them, painted them, & removed the X’s that were on each end. My most recent redo with them was stripping with bleach and applying a light white wash.
I don’t hate them, but I would really like to get my wood tones to match one another better. Out of all the wood tones in our living room I really love the color of the wood on this ottoman and candlestick the best.
My goal is to try this method on one of the end ntables and if it works then hopefully use the same technique on the other end table & on the hutch to get that orange color out.
- Oven cleaner
- Scrubbing brush
- Old wash cloth / Rag
- Warm soapy water
- As always with stripping projects… Gloves, goggles/glasses, long sleeves, well ventilated area.
Cover your entire piece with oven cleaner and let it sit for 20 minutes.
Give it a good scrub with warm soapy water (I used a small amount of Dawn) using the scrub brush. After the scrub I wiped it with a wet rag.
Let dry for 1-2 hours and repeat the process if needed.
I repeated the process twice & probably could have done a third time to remove the original dark stain that’s still there.
Honestly y’all, of all the stripping methods I’ve used this was by far the easiest!
Although, this table didn’t have a lot on it so to really judge easy of use, I probably should try it on a few more pieces.
Here is the side by side of the stripped table and the one with white wash on it.
