Did you ever accidentally stumble upon a great tip? I did! And of all places? It was in my kitchen.

With a large family, our gorgeous copper hammered farmhouse sink frequently loses its shiny and pristine look. It makes sense, right? So many meals and dishes and food passing over the surface. And let's face it, kids don't exactly prioritize how to keep a sink clean. Couple that with the many different types of acidic foods that pass across your sink. And sometimes it seems my sink is more dingy than shiny.

I have found several cleaning methods that work quite well. Including baking soda and vinegar.

And Bar Keeper's Friend, which is very effective. But both of these methods can require quite a bit of scrubbing and elbow grease. It can be exhausting. It is also very important to apply gently pressure and a non abrasive cleanser so as not to scratch the soft copper surface. It's not a favorite task at all.

But, after some excess ketchup sat in the sink for a few minute, I noticed how quickly it removed the tarnish from the copper. I literally just sat there for a few seconds and when I wiped it away, the copper shined brightly back at me. Hmmm...what was happening...no scrubbing? No sweat?

So, I grabbed the ketchup and coated the entire sink. That's right! Just a thin layer of ketchup over the entire sink surface. I let it sit for about 15 minutes and rinsed. You might need to reapply to a few stubborn spots. But this was one easy process.

You can read all of the detail of the process over on the blog. But it really is a a simple and super easy process.

And the absolute FASTEST way to restore the shine to the copper sink!

So this has become a regular ritual to keep my sink looking...

Looking like this!

I'd much rather spend my time decorating and relaxing in my kitchen. And admiring my beautiful shiny copper hammered farmhouse sink.

Cleaning copper with salt and vinegar is just as fast and cheaper. Did this as a kid to copper bottom pans. It was like magic so very fun to do.

I make baby and wedding cards with pennies with the year they were born. Ketchup works to clean up the pennies.
