Masquerade Mask Makeover Into Halloween Decor
Masquerade masks have always reminded me of spooky season. I'm going to show you these masks can be used for more than just wearing!
Here is an east tutorial on how to makeover a cheap masquerade mask into fun Halloween decor!
**Please note: this mask is for decor purposes only.**
I found this cardboard mask at a local dollar store. You can probably find something similar in dollar sections of some stores. (Or craft sections.)
I decided to remove the elastic strap from the back of the mask, since it won't be used for wearing.
I wanted a vintage feel, so I kept the mask simple by painting it solid black.
I used this acrylic paint because I had it on hand. You could really use any type of paint you wish.
This is what it looked like after two coats of paint.
For the eyes, I decided to cover the eye holes with these little place setting cards I had stashed away.
You can always use regular pieces of cardstock or whatnot and paint a color you like. I didn't paint these because they were an off white color.
I cut the cards to fit better
After I cut the cards of fit over the eye opening, I turned the mask over and glued the card onto the mask
This is what it looked like after the eye holes were covered.
I wanted the eyes to look like a cat, so I used a pencil to lightly draw the pupils.
After I was happy with the look of the eyes, I used a sharpie to color over the pencil.
When I picked the mask up at the store, I saw this little hat and thought it would be the perfect vintage feel for the finished mask.
I believe this hat is intended as a Halloween costume accessory, and had clips under the hat rim.
You can probably find something similar in the Halloween costume section of a store.
I clipped the hat on the ear of the cat mask, for the perfect finish!
It's the perfect addition to my Halloween decor!
