Fall Acorn
i have many oak trees at my house. Every year they drop 100s of acorns all over the yard. You’d think I would be sick of acorns. But I’m not. I love creating projects with acorns because they just make you think of autumn and cooler weather.
For this project I started with an acorn plaque and one of the tin tiles I found at Dollar Tree last year.
The nice thing about this acorn plaque is that it is pretty cute the way it is, so I left that side untouched in case I wanted to have a different look. I just turned it over and decorated the other side.
The first thing I did was trace the shape onto one of the tiles and cut it out. I needed just a little bit more across the top to get that curve so cut out another small piece and glued the tin to the plaque with hot glue. Be careful. It gets really hot, so press down lightly when adhering it.
I then used white chalk paint and a triangle sponge and pounced white paint all over and let it dry.
Next, I added baking soda to some more white paint to thicken the paint and give the project more of a rougher surface.

Once the baking soda/paint coat was dry, I used a paper towel dipped in antiquing wax and lightly went over the raised area of the tile. This really brought out the design.
Next, I used a white chalk pencil and drew out the shape of the top of the acorn on a piece of faux leather fabric and cut it out.
I then hot glued it to the top of the plaque.
For a final touch I added to the top a burlap oak leaf, some rafia, and some paper covered wire, then hung it inside a gold basket from Dollar Tree to hang on a wall.
This acorn is now a part of my fall decor.
