Painting Galvanized Buckets - Giant SC Shrimp Boil - Mackenzie Child's

Painting a galvanized bucket is so easy to do and you can make the cutest things with them. You do have to treat these buckets prior to painting or you will have a very chippy peeling bucket on your hands.
Buckets that are galvanized are specially treated so they don't rust. You will need to wash and prime your buckets before you start.
Wipe your bucket down with a cloth and some white vinegar. This helps strips down some of the zinc coating that is on them. Then wash them with a degreasing soap like dawn. Let your buckets dry and then you are ready for the next step

Buy an etching primer that you can get as a spray paint (yes, spray it on! it's so much easier). Etching primer is used to bond to metals and then you can use your paints on the primer. Just like you prime your wood you have to prime metal. Spray outside away from other objects and on a day when it's not windy :)
Here was the inspiration - A MacKenzie Child's plate.
Create your design and begin to paint.
You can see the size of this bucket as it sits on my kitchen table.
I used a clear polycrylic to seal my project and give it a nice glossy finish. Doesn't it look great? Check out my blog below to see more! Thanks for reading. Paula
