Upcycled Foil Food Wrapper Lampshade

6 Materials
I like to think that my house is not completely devoid of style. We have a few nice pieces of furniture, some nice wall hangings and some decorative nick knacks. We also have two young energetic and big dogs and two young and feisty cats that have wreaked havoc on our modest little home. In the last year we have repaired wires, pillows, chairs, curtains a table and this lamp twice. :-) Many of these items have been repaired with something headed for the garbage and / or they were headed for the garbage if not repaired so I guess my style is "Trashy" but I do hope that is not the first impression they make.
This lamp lost it's head (shade) awhile back during one of the dogs reenactments of the wild rumpus scene from Where the Wild Things Are. So I spent some time pondering what I had on hand to repair it.
I had some wooden balloon sticks that I painted and cut to the lengths that I needed to make a new frame. Because the balloon sticks were kind of flimsy I used three for each piece and wrapped some dollar store wire around to hold it all together.
Once I had the basic frame made it was time to add the shade part.
I decided to make the shade part from food wrapper foil. The food wrappers are cleaned and then glued together with rubber cement to make them silver on both side. The I traced and cut the foil into circles.

I used a sewing machine to sew the circles
I used a sewing machine to sew the circles into four sheets for the four sides of the lampshade.
The foil sheets were then glued to the frame with E6000 glue and trimmed as needed.
The final step was to brush some watered down black paint on the foil and then dad most of the paint back off with a paper towel to take away some of the shine and give it a more antique look. You can also see the chair repair and the curtain fix in this photo. :-)For more upcycling inspiration please visit my old blog at www.UpcycedDesignLab.com or my new blog at www.UpcycleDesign.comHappy Hometalking!Cindy
