A Christmas Birdhouse With A Living, Sparkling Succulent Roof

I fished this birdhouse, with the thought in mind that it was destined to become a Christmas birdhouse, out of a pile of junk on the sidewalk.
Found objects – to me, they’re simply the best. After all, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. I fished this birdhouse, with the thought in mind that it was destined to become a Christmas birdhouse, out of a pile of junk on the sidewalk.

You can follow the step by step with this video.
Here are the succulents on the roof. As you can see, the roof has quite a steep pitch so I glued on the moss 1st so the succulents would stay on easier.
Here’s the finished piece I did with Jaz, who was filming me. It was after 3 when we were shooting this & I was starving because I hadn’t had any lunch yet.
A few days later I decided to reshoot another version of the finished piece. For me, lack of food = lack of creativity!

What a beautiful birdhouse to use with your Christmas décor! Love it but would like to ask, did you also hot glue on your hens and chickens and if so wouldn't that kill them? You have inspired me to create one to use as décor year round using silk vines and flowers. I saw a birdhouse once that had live hens and chickens on it but they made a raised wire roof and attached it to hold the planting medium for their live plants. Did I tell you how much I love your birdhouse! I may just make two of them, one for Christmas and on for year round. Thanks for sharing!
