It's that lovely time of year when my backyard birds start building nests (yay, Spring!) and I decided to help them out by providing nesting material using a vintage bed spring as my "cage". Truly a bed spring for a spring bed!

So, these are the rusty, crusty old bed / mattress springs I started with...
To repurpose it into a nesting material holder, I added a few strips of jewelry wire up and down the spring to make it more "cage-like".
And then I gathered my nest building material- mostly using this natural fluff from Audubon! (I've got a link to it in my original post.)
I also gathered 100% cotton kitchen string, just twine, dried grass from my yard, and pet fur. YES, pet fur! You can use pet fur so long as your pets aren't treated for fleas and ticks. Then, I simply started layering in all the goodies into my spring holder.
When it was all done, it looked...WEIRD!...but for a good reason, right?
I then created a wire handle to hang it from our tree. Ta-da!
Check out all of the nitty-gritty details AND affiliate links to the materials I used in my original post!
